With so many consumers 'pre-shopping' online, displays that seem unchanging and dated make it much harder for them to relate to your offerings and your business. • Cut down on clutter. A cus- tom display can be costly to produce, and with change occurring faster, it may be tempting to rely instead on the wire rack of samples that sales representatives are eager to supply. Be careful. Soon you could have little cohesiveness with your showroom's design. Plus, customers may be turned off by the clutter or see your busi- ness as too temporary. Be sure your showroom looks well thought out, finished with an overall plan and with ample space for customer engagement. • It's all in the lighting… and the ceiling! I love high ceilings – but only to a point. A ceiling that's too high can be off-putting, or even ugly. And a too-high ceiling can complicate the lighting. Good lighting is essential to presenting your product lines attrac- tively and color offerings accurately. Consider what lighting setup will work best with your ceiling. Or ask yourself: How can your lighting work around the limitations your ceiling may be placing on it? There's also the concern for cost. Ideally, your show- room will be lit, at least partially, at all times of the day for shoppers looking in. Your challenge is to bal- ance your ceiling's height with the quality and cost of lighting. Many lighting solutions today make this possible and affordable. Your customer today enters your showroom better pre- pared than ever – but product knowledge is rarely enough. Your customer will want a true, in-the-flesh partner to help pull the whole project together. Think collaboration. Your hands-on show- room is key to this process. It lets you work closely and comfortably with your customers, so they're less likely to shop around. The result can be a better, faster sale. Plus, you'll gain referrals for your showroom as the place to see, touch, feel and compare kitchen and bath products. ▪ Read past columns and features and send us your comments about this article and others at KitchenBathDesign.com September 2016 • KitchenBathDesign.com 21 1699 Stutz Dr. | Troy, Michigan 48084 248.649.8766 | EuroAmericaDistributors.com VAL DESIGN.
