Student Contest Winners Named HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — The National Kitchen & Bath Association and Mono- gram have announced the winners of the NKBA Charette Design Competi- tion, which awards students more than $30,000 in scholarships. The competition, now more than a decade old, recognizes students who demonstrate advanced skill in kitchen design by planning a safe, functional kitchen within a three-hour timeframe, according to sponsors. "There is an incredible level of tal- ent and creativity among the students at NKBA-accredited colleges," said Brandon Hochhalter, CKD, marketing development manager at Monogram. "Monogram would like to congratulate all of the finalists and wish them contin- ued success in the future." Nearly 100 NKBA student members from 11 colleges participated in the challenge of creating a kitch- en floor plan with specifications, a design statement, and a per- spective or elevation of a kitchen featuring Monogram appliances, completed within three hours. Each participating college chose up to three local winners to re- ceive $50 each. Named winners were: 1st place, $5,000 scholarship, Sydney Melnyk, Lakeland College, Vermil- ion, Alberta; 2nd place, $4,000 scholarship, Sara Downing, Lake- land College, Vermilion, Alberta; 3rd place, $3,000 scholarship, Rebecca Chekan, Algonquin Col- lege, Ottawa, Ontario; 4th place, $2,500 scholarship, Kari Gasoi- gne, Alexandria Technical and Community College, Alexandria, MN; and 5th place, $2,000 schol- arship, Stephen Shaw, San Diego Mesa College, San Diego, CA. Honorable Mentions, with $1,000 scholarships, were award- ed to Suzy Morris, Front Range Community College, Colorado Springs, CO; Kathryn Waller, San Diego Mesa College, San Diego, CA; Rebecca Kurczaba, Lakeland College, Vermilion, Alberta, Leslie Jennings, Georgian College, Barrie, ON, and Leonardo Herruzo, San Di- ego Mesa College, San Diego, CA. Devon&Devon; Opens Showroom CHICAGO — Devon&Devon; has opened a 1,500-sq.-ft. showroom at LuxeHome, located on the first floor of the historic Merchandise Mart in downtown Chicago. Designed by the company's art director, Paola Tanini, the showroom highlights the brand's collections.
