Newport Brass' Metropole Collection now has kitchen faucets with the octagonal shapes and soft curves of the original bath collection. The line includes six products: a kitchen pull-down faucet, bar/prep faucet, wall-mount pot fller, hot and cold water dispensers, and an air gap. The kitchen faucet uses magnetic docking technology to hold the spray wand in place when not in use. CIRCLE NO. 194 ON PRODUCT CARD Kohler has expanded its Strive kitch- en sink collection with the addition of apron-front designs. The Strive sink is constructed of 16-gauge stainless steel and comes in three confgurations, each with a bottom basin rack included and 9" basin depth. The self-trimming apron feature on this sink only requires a rough cut to the cabinet for installa- tion, the frm notes. CIRCLE NO. 192 ON PRODUCT CARD Ofered in stainless steel or freclay, DXV by American Standard's Or- chard kitchen sink collection brings fexible installation options. The stainless steel models are suitable for undercounter, fush countertop or above-counter custom installation. The freclay version has a reversible design, with sink fnished on all four sides. The freclay sink is available in White, Oyster and Chenille Gray. CIRCLE NO. 188 ON PRODUCT CARD Nantucket Sinks' new patented EZApron33 is the latest addition to its Pro-Series Collection. The kitch- en sink allows homeowners to use an existing 33" sink base or design a new kitchen with a normal framed 33" sink base. The sink is fashioned from 16-gauge stainless steel with an 'EZ' installation. CIRCLE NO. 190 ON PRODUCT CARD SOHO, SCHOCK's single-bowl du- al-mount sink of granite composite, is sized to serve as a space-saving main kitchen sink or a bar, prep or utility sink. Installable as a standard top-mount or a contemporary undermount, SOHO has an arc along the bottom, including a rear-cen- tered drain for maximum workspace. It's available in CRISTADUR and CRISTALITE+ in a range of colors. CIRCLE NO. 195 ON PRODUCT CARD Elkay has expanded the Crosstown sink line to include new mount options for undermount sinks. Universal mounts have the Slim Rim feature, which allows undermount or top-mount installation. Also available with a decorative black glass rim that complements glass cooktop appliances, the rim is constructed of tempered glass with 15mm corners for ease of cleaning. CIRCLE NO. 189 ON PRODUCT CARD Available in six colors, Q-350 sinks from Karran Sinks seamlessly integrate into laminate countertops. The quartz composite sink features specialized rim construction that al- lows for it to be installed seamlessly into a new laminate countertop, or seamlessly bonded to any solid surface countertop. CIRCLE NO. 193 ON PRODUCT CARD Made in Italy, the Myron Farmer Sink from Barclay Products is a white double-bowl farmer sink with an ornamented semi-framed front composed of a slightly recessed panel and a jutting trim. The expan- sive 39" sink has a low divide that separates the equal-sized basins. It is polished on both sides, providing either a touch of design or a simple unembellished smooth side. SECONDARY SINK While the main sink is where much of the work gets done, designers can't ignore the popularity of an additional sink, either in the island, another area of the kitchen or even in another area entirely. "Secondary sinks and prep stations in kitchens are growing in popular- ity," says Emens. "The kitchen is a place where family and friends gather to cook, entertain and be together. It makes sense that the station concept is popular in today's open kitchen plans." "Smaller secondary sinks are nearly a must for today's larger kitchens," adds Neilson Howard. "We see a lot of demand for round and square prep sinks – usually, but not always, smaller than the main sink." "Bar and prep sinks continue to be popular, but aren't just relegated to a kitchen island," says Rohl. Secondary sinks might show up in a kitchen design with dual work zones where each zone has a sink, or in wet bars, media rooms or butler's pantries. A secondary sink in the mudroom is a trend he anticipates will increase, "whether installed at a traditional sink height or at a lower height that's ideal for cleaning of dirty shoes, dirty kids or dirty pups." workmanship," he says. LESS SEPARATION One or two bowls – that is often the question when it comes to the kitchen sink. Increasingly the answer is one. "We are seeing a lot more trough and single-basin sinks in kitchens today. While these sinks tend to occupy the same footprint as the double-basin varieties they're replacing, they are visu- ally less cluttered and provide more work space within the sink," says Lord. Many manufacturers are seeing a rise in popularity of the apron sink. "The traditional and contemporary style of the farmhouse sink design has been prevailing in the sink industry," notes Murray. "The large basin ofers more practical use and durability, allowing for larger accommodations for such items as cooking sheets and large pots. Buckley is seeing a surge in the apron front farm sinks as well, but adds that a lot of people still like a divided sink. Overall, he notes, the trend is to- ward the single basin, which allows space for any cooking pot or sheet that needs washing. He adds that low-divide sinks are also a popular choice. The low-divide sink is a niche that ofers the best of both worlds, according to Emens. "The single bowl ofers an uncluttered, contemporary look – but February 2016 • KitchenBathDesign.com 41
