Brightening Things Up ighting today is so much more than a simple fick of a switch. Light fxtures for the kitchen and bath run the gamut from playful and fun to quiet but highly functional. Energy efciency is key and wireless capability is becoming common. Popular styles include colorful pendants, under-cabinet task and ornate, architectural, and modern fxtures. Today's products are also made of inventive materials, such as agate, bronze, parchment, glass and paper. But, while the look is key, the func- tionality remains critically important to the design. This month, KBDN looks at a variety of products for the kitchen and bath that can light up the room in various ways. 1. Tuell + Reynolds' Galapagos Pendant, approximately 12" in diameter, is made of curled panes of architectural bronze with a blackened steel canopy. The exterior is in torch mark tortoise shell patina, while the interior features a light burnished fnish. Also available is the Galapagos Cluster of three with each shade approximately 12.8" in diameter. Both options have a choice of fnishes and a customizable drop length. CIRCLE NO. 205 ON PRODUCT CARD 2. The Enchanted LED fxture is a fairy tale-inspired design ofered by Corbett Lighting. Handcrafted iron branches are hand-fnished in a warm silver leaf – a silver fnish that has been stained to soften the metallic sheen. A dimmable LED engine is concealed within the fxture's base, accenting the handmade Murano crystal drops in fre-polished glass. CIRCLE NO. 206 ON PRODUCT CARD 3. The Lightology Skyfall pendant combines blown glass and polished chrome in a contemporary hanging light fxture. Skyfall mounts to the ceiling and is ofered in two sizes: the small version measures 98.42"Lx8.66"Wx14.96"H, and the large version measures 98.42"Lx14.17"Wx20.47"H. The glass shade is ofered in a choice of translucent, metallic copper or chromed glass. CIRCLE NO. 207 ON PRODUCT CARD 4. Lamps Plus' Mireille Wall Sconce is part of a line of sconces representing the new shapes that are allowed by LED. They can be hung up, down, in multiples or side by side. The curved sconce has a shiny chrome fnish that is paired with frosted acrylic to give a clean and contemporary look. CIRCLE NO. 208 ON PRODUCT CARD 5. KDesign Pro LED Direct Wire under-cabinet lighting fxtures are easy-to-install, energy-efcient solutions for a well-lit kitchen, according to the company. These under-cabinet fxtures from Kichler Lighting provide the supplemental light needed for a more usable work space, the frm adds. CIRCLE NO. 209 ON PRODUCT CARD 6. Infuenced by the vintage industrial designs of early 20th century America, the transitional Belton collection by Sea Gull Lighting has seeded glass shades that highlight its classic Edison bulbs. The rich Heirloom Bronze fnish adds another layer of retro design to the warm look.
