Osborne Wood Acquires Bendix TOCCOA, GA — Osborne Wood Prod- ucts has purchased the assets of Bendix Architectural Products. The acquisition, which went into effect last month, in- cludes all of the products, product lines, and name of the company, Bendix Archi- tectural Products, Inc. The assets will be moved from Passaic, NJ, to Osborne's facility in Toccoa, GA. Bendix Architectural Products, Inc. was ofcially founded in 1924, but members of the Bendix family produced wooden mouldings in Germany tracing back to 1854. The company has been located in New York and New Jersey over the past 91 years, ofering a variety of decorative mouldings, including corbels, appliqués and crown mouldings. "I'm very excited to serve the woodwork- ing industry by ofering this unique and beautiful line of products," says Leon Osborne, CEO of Osborne Wood Prod- ucts, Inc. Formica Names Winners CINCINNATI, OH — Formica Corp. has named the win- ners of the inaugural SurfaceSet 2016 Student Innovation Competition. A panel of expert design professionals, in- cluding renowned potter, designer and author Jonathan Adler, selected the frst-place winner, Elizabeth Ickes from the University of Cincinnati. The panel also selected a second-place winner, Megan Miller from the University of Minnesota, and a third-place winner, Caitlin Bakofsky from Philadelphia University. Students were invited to submit a design of a commercial space using a minimum of three products from SurfaceSet 2016, a trend-forward collection of 35 new Formica Brand laminates inspired by nature and minimalism. The aspiring professionals submitted a color rendering, along with a de- scription of what was integral to the design. Ickes was awarded the frst-place prize for her Farmer's Kitchen design. She designed a commercial kitchen that can be used by local food vendors to make and sell their products. She will receive $5,000 and a signed vase from Jonathan Adler. Second-place winner Miller will receive $1,000 for her de- sign of a multi-use ofce space appealing to the millennial workers. Bakofsky will receive $500 for her third-place design of an easily accessible and functional luggage store. FEI Group Hosts Conference MARIETTA, GA — The FEI Group, the nation's largest net- work of interior fnish contractors and industry showrooms, recently held its national conference at the Ritz Carlton in Tucson, AZ. The conference enjoyed its highest attendance in its 18-year history, with over 400 industry professionals taking part in conferences and networking events. Mem- bers of its newest venture – KBx, an alliance of independent kitchen and bath entrepreneurs – met to discuss the future of the group and how to grow and serve the industry. As part of that initiative, Doug Haynes, president of Kitchen Art of South Florida, was named KBx Member of the Year.
