Kitchen Gets Light and Bright Overhaul AFTER Thomas T. Vose of Custom Builders and Chris Harris and Alissa Harris of Salt Architecture worked together to give this home an aesthetic makeover. The homeowners are European, they note, which in- fluenced the theme for the overall design. The kitchen was opened up and given a cathedral ceiling, bringing it into balance with the dining and living room. Quarter sawn white oak cabinets from Woodharbor Cabinetry with a custom glaze finish combined with Super White Quartzite countertops were chosen to complement the light color palette and create a more open and airy feeling. To create additional storage and counter space, a center island was added. A large sliding glass door was installed in the living room, giving greater access to the home's water view, while a large window and larger door openings allow for the influx of natural light, which dramatically brightens up the space. The master bath was also reconfigured for greater efficiency, and a pop of color was added through the choice of cabinetry, providing contrast with the stark white walls used in the rest of the home. A lack of countertop and storage space created challenges in the kitchen, while a lack of light was a major issue as well.
