BlueStar Names Contest Winner BLANDON, PA — BlueStar has named IDF Studio in San Francisco, CA the grand prize winner of its third annual Kitchen Design Com- petition. The winning design shows how color, customization and performance come together in a full BlueStar kitchen suite, including range, ventilation hood and premium refrigeration, notes the firm. The winning entry reflects the homeowner's fun, youthful person- ality. The client is a librarian and volunteers for the SPCA. IDF Studio Design Director Jaclyn Christensen took on the challenge: how to include the animal theme and color pink throughout the home while designing a refined, sophisticated space. She incorporated a white BlueStar built-in refrigerator and 36" gas range with white knobs; both feature nickel accents in the design. The five finalists in the kitchen design competition are: 1. Cindy Rinfret, Rinfret, Ltd., Greenwich, CT 2. Debbie Gottlieb, Finelines Interiors, Westchester, NY 3. Wendy Berry, W. Design, Chagrin Falls, OH 4. Pamela Polvere, Pamela Polvere Designs, Elmwood Park, IL 5. Suzanne & Garry Shumaker, Shumaker Design & Build Associates, Evanston, IL The contest, which attracted entries from across the country, honors design professionals who incorpo- rate BlueStar products into innovative, beautiful kitchen designs. The Grand Prize winner receives BlueStar appliances for his/her home and the title BlueStar Kitchen Designer of the Year. The 2019 competition is currently open for entries through February 8, 2019. The entry can be any style kitchen, and a minimum of one BlueStar cooking appliance is required. Ranges, rangetops, refrigerators, gas and electric ovens and cooktops all meet this requirement. Rules and entry criteria can be found at http:// www.bluestarcooking.com/inspiration/kitchen-design-contest/. Franz Viegener Ceases Online Product Sales GURNEE, IL — In what appears to be an unprecedented move, Franz Viegener has announced that it will no lon- ger allow online sales of its products. The decision was made to ensure and preserve brand quality and service while also support its Authorized Dealer network, whose members have an investment and strategic alliance with the company, the firm reported. As a manufacturer within the luxury sector, Franz Viegener's marketing strategy also includes an ex- tremely selective group of approved dealers. A part of the strategy also precludes showing any pricing on the internet or allowing any of its dealers to sell the prod- ucts online. John Weinstein, North American director said, "We encourage our dealers to promote our beautiful products online so they're searchable, however, we want the pur- chasing experience to be personal; offering our showroom sales staff the opportunity to be part of the sales process. By doing this, both the consumer and the sales associate have a stake in the movement of product. This strate- gy offers the consumer the ability to easily address any product questions or concerns while affording the sales associate an opportunity to advise, offer care information or suggest other items which may be required to complete the installation." BlueStar's grand prize kitchen, designed by Jaclyn Christensen, had a decidely feminine flair. 20 Kitchen & Bath Design News • May 2018 INDUSTRY UPDATE NOTEWORTHY DEVELOPMENTS IMPACTING THE KITCHEN AND BATH MARKET PUT HÄFELE'S DOCKING DRAWER AND OTHER CHARGING SOLUTION PRODUCTS IN YOUR SHOWROOM AND RECEIVE ADDITIONAL DISCOUNTS!
