Peaceful Paradise ABIGAIL SYLTIE Redstone Kitchens, Dallas, TX Contemporary yet warm was the request for this kitchen, designed by Abigail Syltie of Redstone Kitchens in Dallas, TX. The homeowners wanted the 350-sq.-ft. space to be a peaceful spot where they could enjoy a cup of coffee or entertain, but they didn't want it to look like a kitchen. Syltie started simply with slab high-gloss doors in white from Downsview Kitchens. Along the back wall, a Bertazzoni cooktop is set in a White Zeus Extreme Silestone quartz countertop from Cosentino. The Aria Stone Danbi marble backsplash showcases various shades playing well against the Downsview upper lift cabinets, featuring slab doors in rift-cut walnut veneer, which is repeated in the open shelving. A custom Vent-A-Hood 48" tilt-up hood is tucked away in the cabinetry. The first of the islands is all white, repeating the white cabinetry and countertop. Here, a Chemcore Jasper sink with Grohe k7 Semi Pro Faucet and paneled Bertazzoni dishwasher provide function on one side, with seating on the other. The second island features white cabinetry with an undercounter wine cooler from U-Line, with more seating on the other side, all wrapped in the Danbi marble. The workhorse area of the room includes massive amounts of tall storage along with a Bertazzoni convection oven and speed oven beside the GE Monogram 30" refrigerator/freezer, all finished with Downsview's slab high-gloss doors in gray, packed with clever storage. Blended Design STEVE JOHNSON Atelier Inc., Scottsdale, AZ The new open floor plan in this contemporary-style Phoenix, AZ home required a kitchen that would work with the rest of the house. The clients desired a kitchen that wouldn't draw attention to itself, but rather would blend into the Great Room design. To create the space, Steve Johnson of Atelier Inc. in Scottsdale, AZ first removed walls and sof- fits that surrounded the 1980s kitchen to open it up. Dark wood grain laminate panels from Eggersmann USA were used along the back wall to provide contrast and center the kitchen within the 400-sq.-ft. space. The panel along the wall was back lit with LED lighting for effect. Eggersmann high-gloss white flat-panel cabinetry 'floats' off the back wall. The Miele Convection Oven and Combi-Steam Oven along the wall are finished in white to match the cabinetry. A Miele downdraft hood sits next to the cooktop, and a Miele 36" fully inte- grated refrigerator and freezer are featured on the adjacent wall. The dark wood grain laminate found on the back wall is also featured on the island, punctuated by a white inset shelf for display. Caesarstone's Blizzard quartz surfacing was used for the countertop and the custom sink, which features a step-down design that allowed KWC's Ono faucet to be installed within. A Miele dishwasher in the island provides easy clean-up. Photos: Costa Christ Photos: Chris Loomis, Chris Loomis Photography SILVER BRONZE August 2017 • KitchenBathDesign.com 57
