No longer is the showroom the frst step for looking and learning. That young couple now walking in your door for the frst time? You can expect they have already gathered a signif- icant amount of product information online. They may have already selected their preferred styles. Your showroom priority now is to provide these home- owners direct interaction with your products – and personal interaction with your people. The typical showroom shoppers today aren't "just looking" – they should be ready to engage. And your showroom should be de- signed to help them do this. The showroom should enable your customers to see, touch and feel – frst- hand. "What is real and true, compared to what we found on the Internet? What can we visualize, debate, decide on and buy – not just get introduced to – right here in the showroom?" This very big shift in the shopping ex- perience provides a huge op- portunity for your business to match up to homeowners' needs and meet and exceed their expectations. For the savviest kitchen and bath frm owners, the recent economic crisis pro- vided the perfect opportuni- ty to reassess their business strategies. Some elected to shift their focus from struggling builders and con- tractors to the faster-grow- ing retail market. Others re-evaluated their showroom designs and layouts and overhauled them completely. More fundamentally, some long-time kitchen and bath frm owners saw that they had a serious problem with their location. Their current sites in remote or hidden corners of the com- munity couldn't continue to deliver a thriving trade – not for the long haul or even for the shorter term. They would need to be in more visible places, more easily accessible to their best customers. So they decided to pick up their operations and move. Are you in the right location for today? Are you sure you're in the right location for tomorrow? A huge new consumer group is now entering our market, ready for home ownership and improvement. This calls for us to review our showroom master plans, and relocate and redesign our showrooms for the next big wave of new business.
