Ventilation Innovation uick and efcient are two of the words that immediately come to mind when referring to ventilation. The newest innovations in kitchen and bath ventilation include a range of faster speeds for air circulation, a larger capture area for unwanted emis- sions and even more energy-efcient products. Efciency is indeed key for these products, and while Energy Star cer- tifcation has long been a norm in the bath, for kitchens it is just coming to the forefront. Many of the latest products for both rooms are boasting better energy savings, while still providing a greater strength to whisk away any unwanted smells, smoke or steam with low levels of noise. Sensor-controlled products also allow a simple way for fans to go on and of automatically when needed for moisture. Many of the latest fans can be kept running around the clock to keep air circulating in the home while using very little energy, providing an added health beneft. In the kitchen, backlit LED-panel devices and pinpointed lighting provide illumination of appliance controls as well as work surfaces. These hoods feature various input and output sites for the air, as well as the convenience of dishwasher-safe flters. Hoods come in diferent shapes and sizes to ft various cooktops and ranges, both physically and aesthetically. Finishes now go beyond stain- less steel, with colors ranging from dark to light and retro or provincial styles being popular. On this and the next three pages, KBDN takes a look at some of the latest products providing improved air circulation throughout the home. 1.
