The 2015 Crystal Design Awards CRYSTAL CABINETS celebrated the 15th year of its awards competition with a roundup of distinctive designs for the kitchen, bath and other rooms of the home where its cabinets are featured. Announced this past spring, the three Grand Prize winners were Wendy Manley of Waterview Kitchens in Tequesta, FL; Mary Adams of Kitchen Cove Cabinetry & Design in Portland, ME, and Tina Rodda of Kitchen Cove Cabinetry & Design in Portland, ME. Each of the three winners received a prize of $2,000. The 2015 Crystal Design Awards Competition, which is open to indepen- dent kitchen and bath designers, also acknowledges other top designs, which are chosen as Crystal Choice Winners. All winners receive national recogni- tion via the company's Web site, social media sites and company brochures. This gourmet chef's kitchen with open foor plan by Wendy Manley, CKD, of Waterview Kitchens in Tequesta, FL takes advantage of the waterfront views. A grand prize winner in the Crystal Cabinetry's awards competition, the room blends appliances with classic textures, such as walnut and marble. A center square sink-island is fanked by a 20' seating island on one side and the perimeter wall with 60" gas range and hood on the other. The island includes integrated refrigerator drawers, as well as steam, microwave and warming drawer ovens. A walnut refrigerator wall with glass-front refrigerators acts as a focal point for the space. Frosty White Matte painted and Wheaton Matte on Walnut on the French Villa Square beaded inset door and drawer pair with the 2" Calcutta marble countertops for a warm contrast. Using Casco Bay as the backdrop, Mary Adams of Kitchen Cove Cabinetry & Design in Portland, ME gave this kitchen a light, beachy feel. A grand prize winner in the 2015 awards competition from Crystal Cabinetry, the kitchen incorporates three diferent cabinet elements. Perimeter cabinetry, including a hutch wall, is French Villa Square inset fnished in Stone Bluf Matte. The large-scale island incorporates the same cabinets in Signature Driftwood with Van Dyke Brown highlight, as well as a hickory furniture piece. A range wall with venting behind the shiplap keeps the look clean and simple, while the sink area ofers a view of the bay via the wall of windows. Ocean views on the outside and a grand-scale slab freplace on the inside acted as the backdrops for this understated kitchen, designed by Tina Rodda, of Kitchen Cove Cabinetry & Design, in Portland, ME. A grand-prize winner in the 2015 Crystal Design Awards Competition, the kitchen draws inspiration from its surrounding elements – with a dramatic stone backsplash evoking the idea of the stormy sea, and the white and stainless steel cabinetry and countertops providing a clean and calming aesthetic. The Benton door style in Frosty White features glass-front uppers, providing a display space for colorful dishware. The Thermador column refrigeration units are paneled to provide a cleaner look and fank the large-scale Fantasy Brown granite backsplash and 48" range. A massive stainless steel hood enhances the sleek design of the space. Photo: Jamie Salomon Photo: Jack Bates Photography Photo: James R. Salomon 60 Kitchen & Bath Design News • January 2016 AWARDS
