Moen Thoughtful Designer of the Year KIRSTEN ERIKSON OF Gonyea Home in Minneapolis, MN has taken home the grand prize in the frst-ever Thoughtful Designer of the Year Awards from Moen. Erickson's winning kitchen project was part of a custom home de- signed in early 2015. Through the newly created award, the com- pany wanted to honor trade professionals who in- corporate thoughtful elements into their kitchen and bath designs. This thoughtful design process involves taking the time to listen and watch to gain the insights needed to provide a meaningful value to customers. Erikson was awarded $20,000 toward her next project. In addition, 10 entrants were also recognized for their eforts and received a new Moen Velocity Rainshower. Medallion Cabinetry's 2015 Kitchen Design of the Year ELKAY & MEDALLION Cabinetry hosted the 2015 Kitchen Design of the Year competition, the company's frst-ever social media contest for designers to showcase their best work using Medallion Cabinetry. Held this fall, the company invited users of Facebook to vote on their favorite kitchens from among the Top 25 fnalists. A Grand Prize winner and two runners-up were announced in November. Mark Wishnow of Wish Kitchens and Baths in Hagerstown, MD was the Grand Prize winner. He received a $4,000 vacation package, a professional photo shoot of the submitted kitchen, an iPad and the ofcial title of 2015 Medallion Kitchen Design of the Year. First runner up Brett Shafer of MidSouth Building Supply in Richmond, VA and second runner up Rich Coulton of Lakeville Kitchen & Bath in Lindenhurst, NY each received a professional photo shoot of their submitted kitch- ens, as well as an iPad. Focusing on the idea of thoughtful design, the winning kitchen in Moen's awards competition was styled to create an efcient workfow for the homeowners. Designed by Kirsten Erikson of Gonyea Home in Minneapolis, MN, the entry was judged on the overall aesthetic of the room's look and how thoughtfully she integrated Moen products – including the Arbor pull-down kitchen faucet in chrome – within the design. The faucet makes its statement in the dramatic angular island, which opens out to the adjoining space. The white cabinetry throughout the room is topped with an eye-catching granite with warm brown tones. The white subway tile along the backsplash is interrupted with a splash behind the range that features tile in the colors in the granite, laid in a diamond pattern. Cut glass pendants over the island add a sparkle to the space. Mark Wishnow of Wish Kitchens and Baths in Hagerstown, MD took top honors in Medallion Cabinetry's 2015 Kitchen Design of the Year awards with this design. The u-shaped kitchen features a large island in the center that is fnished in a dark stain, directly opposite of the perimeter cabinets, which are a creamy tone with a dark counter. Bronze touches in the apron front sink, range hood, hardware and light fxtures provide a contrast to the expanse of light cabinets and add warmth and charm to the space. 56 Kitchen & Bath Design News • January 2016 AWARDS
