Whirlpool Invests In Distribution Benton Harbor, MI — Whirlpool Corp. is investing $21 million to in- crease the size of its distribution. The company has established a new Regional Distribution Cen- ter near Chicago, bringing the company's U.S. total of RDCs to 12, including Puerto Rico and Hawaii. W h i r l p o o l is l ea si n g a 750,000-sq.-ft. warehouse in Channahon, IL, which is south- west of Chicago. The new facility is a full-mix, rail-served ware- house, storing products from all Whirlpool-built major appliance categories and brands. The new center improves service to customers through greater fexibility and more ef- fcient operations, which results in better delivery times, accord- ing to the company. The Chicago RDC serves Whirlpool local dis- tribution centers in the Upper Midwest. "The expansion of our network is part of our ongoing commitment to provide the best service to continu- ally meet our customers' needs," said Jim Keppler, v.p., Integrated Supply Chain and Quality. "Chicago is the perfect location for a new facility. We have a large base of retail and builder customers in the metro area, and it provides easy access to multiple modes of transportation." Keppler said Kenco, a third-party logistics provider, manages the warehouse in Chicago, and it will employ 60 to 70 people when fully operational. Hastings Redesigns Showroom New York, NY — Hastings Tile & Bath has redesigned its showroom to include over 40 new vignettes, eight of which are scaled as ac- tual bathroom sizes (8'x10', 8'x8' and a smaller 5'x8' to match New York apartment profiles.) All of Hastings' bathroom vignettes offer creative solutions for bath- rooms of almost any size. "We made the decision to create these concept rooms to act as inspiration for our clients," said Bob Gifford, director of bath products at Hastings Tile & Bath. "We wanted to high- light and illustrate how our large selection of tiles and bath products work together." Each of the eight scaled- to-size vignettes has its own style; from industrial chic to amped-up luxury, the vi- gnettes are designed to the smallest details.
