TRUE VALUE Along with wanting to get the most out of the space, con- sumers are looking for products that ofer a good value, say manufacturers. This doesn't mean they're necessarily looking for the least expensive options. "Organization and ease of use are features people are willing to invest in," states Marisa Sanchez, product man- ager, cabinet & closet organizers for Hardware Resources in Bossier City, LA. Peele adds that value is a key element in budgeting and decision-making. "Smaller kitchens have the most to gain with custom concept cabinetry and space-saving initiatives. People are willing to spend more on cabinetry and fttings that incorporate the features they need to accommodate their specifc user requirements." FLEXIBLE CONVENIENCE Because kitchens are moving toward both smaller spaces and open-concept design, interior organization is more im- portant now than ever before. Homeowners are looking for both fexibility and convenience in function and design alike. St. Cyr says consumers are looking for products and solutions that will increase their quality of life. "They're looking for product features that will wow them, that will diferentiate their designs from others, that will make them unique," she says. But these interior fttings and accessories must also be functional and customizable to make the most of the space and meet diferent needs. Some of the biggest trends shown at Interzum were based on the emphasis of personality and authenticity, with consumers looking for ways to express themselves, says McPeek. "Consumers both young and old are looking to maximize the space they live in," she adds." People want convenience, as well as clear defnition of the space. "The adage of 'A place for everything and everything in its place' isn't new, but still rings true today," notes McPeek. No longer are designers defaulting to drawers over base cabinets all the way across, says Hall. Variety in the cabinetry, including the use of full-height doors, allows the space to be used most efectively. These spaces accom- modate accessories that require more height and give the kitchen a diferent look at the same time. With busy lifestyles, time-saving products are in high demand. "People are busy, and space is valuable. Cabinet organizers allow for everything to be put away but still be easily accessible," says Sanchez. Cannon agrees: "We are an overly busy society. Efciency and convenience are important for those of us who are always on the go and rush through mak- ing meals – as well as for those of us who fnd solace in cooking." When designers can create a kitchen that exudes efciency and convenience, homeowners are happier, she adds. "Organization is no longer an add-on in the back of a spec book. It's part of the package when cabinets are sold," she says. Specifc products selected vary widely depending on the homeowner's lifestyle, but some are becom- ing more and more popular, including pull-out pantries and waste separation systems. "Waste separation systems are becoming increasingly important, particularly from a global perspective," says Sagel. "More and more countries and municipalities are introducing waste sorting. Solutions have to be presented that combine easy separation, no smells and simple disposal and transport in one system." Jan Fitzpatrick, customer and market relations manager for Kernersville, NC-based Grass America Inc., sees the U.S. Design Pro LED Direct Wire under-cabinet lighting fxtures are easy-to-install, energy- efcient solutions for a well-lit kitchen. These under-cabinet fxtures from Kichler Lighting provide the supplemental task light needed for a more usable work space. Circle No. 206 on Product Card The SlideLine M sliding door ftting from Hettich America is a single-track, bottom-running system that is suitable for doors made of wood, glass and aluminum. Projecting by just 8mm, the profle keeps sliding doors close to the car- case, guaranteeing minimal gaps at either side. Two doors can cross each other in just one profle. Silent system is integrated in SlideLine M's running component, and moves doors gently and quietly in opening and closing direction. Where several sliding doors run in one profle, soft colliding slows them down as they move toward each other. Circle No. 210 on Product Card Vauth-Sagel is expanding its product ofer- ing in its waste separation systems with the introduction of the Oko liner organizational drawer. The drawer can accommodate vari- ously shaped plastic containers, utilizing the limited storage space below the kitchen sink and above the waste separation system. The Oko liner stands out with its cushioned front- panel drawer, and features silent close. Two installation heights and numerous diferent container sizes ofer customization. They include full panels, furniture-quality fn- ish, quality metal hardware and simple installation. Circle No. 212 on Product Card Designed to accommodate all types of closet lighting requirements, Outwater Plastics Industries' aluminum LED Closet Rod Light Kit can be trimmed on the job site as needed in 2" increments for a 'made-to-order' installation. The kit comes complete with a closet rod, LED ribbon fex lighting strip and two mounting brackets. Circle No. 211 on Product Card John Boos & Co. 's Newton Prep Master provides a variety of features. A sloped juice groove runs around the perimeter of the 2-1/4"-thick cutting board, channeling juices from the back of the board to the front where it empties into a stainless steel tray. Slide the stainless steel pan out from under the cutting board and drain to a pot or skil- let. The stainless steel pan can also be used for scraps, or to transport diced, prepped food. The Newton Prep Master can be reversed to reveal a fat cutting surface with a stainless steel pan and inset. The board is available in three sizes and is American made of solid Northern hard rock maple, with edge grain construction. Circle No. 209 on Product Card The Fineline drawer system from Hafele America Co. ofers sleek, wooden drawer dividers that inte- grate within an existing drawer. With the Fineline system, drawers may be customized with an as- sortment of posts and accessories to specifcally ft the items being stored. The system can be used in shallow drawers for cutlery storage or deep drawers for storing larger items such as pots and pans.
