Thermador Names Regional Winners Irvine, CA — American luxury kitchen appliance brand Thermador has chosen the 16 regional winners of its 2012-2013 Kitchen Design Challenge. Each of these 16 regional winners will be awarded a $2,500 cash prize and an all-expenses- paid trip to Southern California for an exclusive celebratory gala, where more cash prizes will be awarded. In total, $100,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the regional and national winners of this competition. The 16 regional winners consist of two kitchen designs from each of the contest's six regions – with each win- ner representing the design category of either contemporary/modern or tra- ditional/transitional – as well as four winners across all regions for best use of built-in Thermador refrigeration in their design. At the celebration gala later this month, Thermador will unveil three national grand prize winners and two runners-up, selected from among the regional winners, to receive a part of the prize purse. The grand prizes will honor both the best Traditional/Transitional kitchen design and Contemporary/ Modern kitchen design from across the nation, and also award a grand prize for the best use of refrigeration in a kitchen design. This year's contest was expanded over the previous year to include more opportunities to win and more incen- tives for entering, including a total prize value of over $225,000, with cash prizes totaling $100,000 as well as marketing and promotion and an all-expenses- paid trip for two to a celebration weekend in the fall of 2014. The feld of regional winners was doubled in the 2012-2013 challenge from 8 to 16, and the contest was expanded to include submissions from design frms in addi- tion to individual designers as in years past over the two-year period, accord- ing to the company. Duravit Updates New York Showroom The New York, NY-based Duravit showroom was recently updated to include the company's new Vero furniture collection, designed in collaboration with Kurt Merki, Jr., as well as a selection of 'best of' suites – furniture, toilets, washbasins and tubs – staged with interior décor suggesting a wide scope of bathroom solutions. The Architec tub will also be making its New York debut in a micro bathroom setting, while the Happy D.2 DCube will receive an updated look with new tiles and a bold color scheme. IWF Registration Up Atlanta, GA — The International Woodworking Fair (IWF) has noted that registration for IWF 2014 grows daily and is pacing ahead of the 2012 Fair. The largest woodworking tech- nology trade show in North America will be held August 20-23 in Atlanta at the Georgia World Congress Center. The seven students are graduates of North Texas high schools and each re- ceived a one-year scholarship in the amount of $2,000. The 2014-2015 scholarship recipi- ents include: Kylie Leeper, freshman, attending Auburn University; Rafael Serrano, sophomore, attending the University of Texas at San Antonio; Marisol Rodriguez, freshman, un- decided; Lauren Wells, sophomore, attending the University of Oklahoma; Denise Mata, senior, attending Texas Tech University Health Science Center; Carlos Andaluz, freshman, undecided, and Erica Gonzalez, junior, attending Texas Woman's University. Greenfeld Presents Design Award Milwaukee, WI — Alan Freysinger and Jeff Sporer of Design Group Three, based in the Milwaukee, WI area, have been awarded the na- tional "Star of Excellence Award" by Greenfeld Cabinetry for their design of a modern kitchen they created for a Mid-Century Modern home based in Fox Point, WI. "To be hand selected to receive this award from a company that works with designers from around the country is quite an honor," commented Freysinger, who is the co-proprietor and senior designer with Design Group Three. "This is an award of the highest honor from our company," comment- ed Pat Corsi, owner of Greenfeld Cabinetry.
