However, Gil Kovalsky and Kobi Aharon have nothing to make comparisons against. There are no pre-recession benchmarks or previous goals to strive toward because the duo opened their Englewood, NJbased design frm, Modiani Kitchens and Interiors, in 2010…after the recession ofcially ended. "When we opened, the economy was challenging," says Kovalsky, who, while new to kitchen/bath frm ownership, has a background in construction and nearly two decades of business experience. Likewise, his business partner, Aharon, is a respected expert in European modern kitchen design, frst in Israel and later in Manhattan. Soho-style space. 30 | Kitchen & Bath Design News Equipped with a full-size working kitchen, they host cooking demonstrations and other events, including a recent ASID CEU course about kitchen ventilation. They also make their showroom available for fund raising events, supporting several local non-proft events. "This is a great way to get exposed in the community and to help the community," says Aharon. "We love that we have an opportunity to give back." They create spaces that are "artful in design and deliberate in presentation," October 2013 • Modiani designers focused on efciency while creating this open kitchen designed for an active family that enjoys hosting dinner parties. based on a foundation of contemporary kitchen cabinets from Cesar and Modiani Custom, and traditional kitchen cabinetry from Rutt. From their showroom, located just 14 minutes driving distance from Manhattan, they cater to upper middle class clients in the city as well as in Bergen County, NJ. "We are dedicated to creating breathtaking luxury kitchens with revolutionary functionality," notes Kovalsky, who indicates that this goal coincides with the frm's design and business philosophy, which is simplicity, functionality, great kitchens and happy clients. "Factors that contribute to our success are thinking of our clients' needs frst, providing phenomenal service and products, and being honest with our clients."
