Market Pulse { Readers' opinions on industry-related issues } Designers Discuss App Usage For Their Businesses Kitchen & Bath Design News recently posed the question to dealers and designers in the kitchen and bath industry: "Do you use apps for your business? How do they help you to be more efective?" D ropbox and GoPayment are the two apps I use the most. Occasionally I use Skitch. I also have My Measures, Cut Calculator, MagicPlan, and Room Planner, but they take more time than doing things by hand. Their only advantage is that you end up with sendable fles." Charles Cameron, owner Design Details Somerville, MA W e use Houzz for design inspiration, along with MagicPlan to help with measurements. We have also supplied iPads to all of our designers." Kevin Telaak, president Appliance Associates of Bufalo Artisan Kitchens and Baths Bufalo, NY I n addition to AutoCAD and Google SketchUp, I also use apps on my iPad to work with clients. I can download photos for them to view. I can also draw and make notes right on the photos during the meeting. It keeps the appointment on track, is paperless and keeps overhead costs down." Suha Atassi-Dimon, owner/designer Dimon Designs, LLC Chicago, IL T he only apps I use from a business point of view relate to calendars, phone numbers and list management. I fnd it more advantageous to use an Ultrabook than a cell phone when it comes to working in the feld." Theresa M. Sterbis owner/chief designer Project Partners Design Fremont, CA W e do not currently use any apps for our business. It is something we would consider for the future as we are always trying to stay up to date and give our clients the best experience possible." Lisa Santosuosso, co-owner Apple Wood Kitchen & Bath Apple Wood Construction Windham, NH W e use 20/20 as well as all of the Microsoft Ofce products. We also use a productivity app called Improveit! 360, which we use for calendars, appointments, follow up and ordering jobs." Greg Poszyler, manager Dream Kitchen Designs, LLC Cranford, NJ T he apps we use for our business are fun creative apps that are accessible to our clients as well, such as Pinterest, Houzz and Zillow Digs." Kimberly Martin owner/senior designer Custom Kitchens by Martin Mendon, NY W e currently do not use apps, but we are always willing to try new things that might better our business, and more importantly, better serve our customers." Becky Walker Flagg, showroom mgr. Walker Kitchen Design Granby, CT I use Evernote a lot. It has so many diferent aspects that make life easier when on a jobsite. I also use Houzz, Pinterest, Skitch (part of Evernote) and Measure Pro. My clients are as busy as I am. I think they appreciate that our meetings are focused and time efcient. It works for all of us when I can pull up info or photos right there, as opposed to waiting for an email later." Rebecca Reynolds, owner New Canaan Kitchens Fairfeld County, CT I use Dropbox, Evernote, Pinterest and Houzz. Without question, Houzz has been most infuential in my business. There are some clients who have not heard of Houzz, but after I mention how it will help us 'see each other's minds,' and after they have had a chance to visit the site, they always remark how helpful and intuitive the site is to help them convey ideas to me." Sandra Brannock, AKBD owner/designer Expert Kitchen Designs, LLC Amissville, VA A pps are a part of everyday business. Almost all of my catalogs and countertop material selections are on my iPad. I also use Evernote and GoodReader on a daily basis." Annette M. Starkey, CKD, CBD Living Environment Design Orangevale, CA I currently use Dropbox. I invite clients to view renderings, approve plans and leave me items if they are remote or if they are unable to come in person." Maria Stapperfenne, CKD, CBD division manager Tewksbury Kitchens & Baths Whitehouse Station, NJ I am starting to use apps, such as the Cambria app, so clients can see what a large slab of quartz looks like."
