Industry Update { Noteworthy developments impacting the kitchen and bath market } KBIS Focuses on Education, Future New Orleans, LA — A dramatically expanded educational program was the highlight of this year's Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), the largest U.S. event devoted to kitchen and bath products and industry trade professionals. Held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, the show attracted more than 20,000 professional registrations, 400 exhibitors and over 250 media professionals, with the overall feel on the show foor one of optimism for the future as the housing and remodeling markets continue to show improvement. Guests hailed from fve continents, according to NKBA. The expansive educational program, which included 70+ sessions, will once again be a key fxture at the 2014 KBIS, when the show becomes part of Design and Construction Week, which will include the International Builders' Show, held at the same time in Las Vegas. The co-located shows will take place February 4-6, and are expected to draw over 70,000 industry professionals, NKBA reported. KBIS 2014 is already 85% sold out, show ofcials said, retaining a majority of existing exhibitors and welcoming such new exhibitors as MasterBrand Cabinets, American Standard and more. "Interest in the 2014 event, coupled with the new Design & Construction Week platform, is tremendously exciting," said Bill Darcy, CEO, NKBA. "Audience engagement is the strongest it's been in a number of years. We look forward to continuing the momentum through our KBIS platforms." Coverings 2013 Delivers Education and Products Atlanta, GA — Coverings 2013, The Ultimate Tile + Stone Experience, attracted an increased number of architects, designers and specifers this year when the four-day event was held at the Georgia World Congress Center in late April. The audience segment grew by three percent, drawn by the opportunity to visit more than 950 exhibitors from over 35 countries, and attend more than 70 free education sessions. Overall, Coverings 2013 drew over 22,000 attendees. Featured as part of the event were Distributor VIP programs, Contractor Days, on-site Advanced Certifcations for Tile Installers (ACT) and the new Stone Zone for fabricators. Visitors took in continuing advances in thin tiles, large format tiles and tiles that mimic other materials such as wood with increasing fdelity. One of the many ways Coverings built support among the local design community was by sponsoring for the frst time a special Best Use of Tile or Stone category in the ASID Georgia Chapter annual design competition.
