Product Review { Ventilation } Breathing Easier With Range Hoods & Fans W hile ventilation has long been important in the kitchen and bath to remove odors and grease, and improve overall air quality, today's ventilation units are all about style. From custom designed wood units to hammered copper, glass, stainless steel and designer-colored pnishes, ventilation can provide a dramatic focal point in the kitchen. And today���s ventilation manufacturers are rising to the challenge, with a wealth of designer options that run the gamut from clean and streamlined to hightech futuristic to glamorous and eye-catching ��� and everything in between. Yet, even as demand continues to grow for high-style products that add the ever-desired personal touch, today���s consumers are equally enamored of energy-e���cient products that are quiet and built to last. In the bathroom, quiet, multi-functional ventilation that includes sensor technology, built-in lighting and easy installation is increasingly popular. This month, KBDN looks at just a small sampling of the kitchen and bath ventilation products available on the market today. 1. Broan-NuTone has added Recessed Fans with LED Lights to its wide array of bathroom fan/light models. The latest version of its Recessed Fan/Light is Energy-Star rated and features an LED bulb that will last at least 25,000 hours, according to the prm. Mercury-free, the LED o���ers greater dimming capabilities and turns on instantly. Circle No. 208 on Product Card 2. The KSE912XU is a 36" hood from Smeg USA that features an exclusive qat design and a digital LED electronic display with touch-control panel. The hood features a power boost mode and an automatic switch o��� after 30 minutes. It can be vented out or recirculating. Circle No. 206 on Product Card 3 3. The Bosch 800 Series Glass Canopy Wall Mount Chimney Hood includes a 600 CFM blower and four power levels, and quietly clears the air of smoke and odor at 54 dBA. The hood features a brushed stainless steel pnish and seven-segment digital display. An adjustable chimney and dishwasher-safe mesh plters provide added convenience. Circle No. 207 on Product Card 4. Abbaka o���ers a complete series of liners for custom wood hoods, mantles, arches, alcoves and stucco-formed hoods. Snapin covering panels completely hide mounting screws and rigid 16-gauge stainless steel construction ensures the liner lays qat. A complete range of ventilation options ��� interior (built-in), Attic (in-line) or Hy-Ex Exterior blowers from 600-1400 CFM ��� complete the system. Circle No. 205 on Product Card 2 5. Imperial Cal. Products has added a line of copper and zinc range hoods to its selection of ventilation products. The handcrafted wall and island hoods are packaged with the company's ventilator insert. The AI 400 ventilation hood from Gaggenau utilizes a single large plter behind several smaller cover panes, providing a 25 percent higher grease absorption rate than common rim extraction hoods, according to the prm. The ILVE Collection of professional-grade cooking products is available in the U.S. from EuroChef USA. Featuring Italian craftsmanship and technology, the units are hand-assembled and available in eight colors and three trims. Color-matched range hoods complement a full line of ranges, wall ovens and cooktops. Circle No. 211 on Product Card 8. The modern hood collection from Fagor America consists of classic designs. Wallmounted and center island hoods are available in 36", 30" and 24" sizes. Each feature removable, dishwasher-safe plters. Circle No. 212 on Product Card 8 9. O���ered by Compass Manufacturing International, TruVent hoods are available in toughened glass or all-stainless steel designs that feature vented or recirculated air operation, along with superior suction, low noise level and a three-speed motor.
