Now in its sixth year, Design and Construction Week returns to Las Vegas with a host of new products, new programming and a star-studded array of special events designed to inspire kitchen and bath professionals. KBIS Plans for a Full House LAS VEGAS — Entering its sixth year, Design and Construction Week is planning for a full house as it once again takes over the Las Vegas Convention Center this month after a two-year run in Orlando. With an expected attendance of more than 85,000 design and residential construction professionals and more than 2,000 exhibitors showcasing products across more than one million square feet of exhibit space, the event offers a plethora of opportunities for networking, trend watching, learning and catching up on the latest product, design and technology trends. Both the KBIS and IBS show floors will be open Tuesday through Thursday, Feb. 19-21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the South Hall and Salon by KBIS opening at 8 a.m. Design and Construction Week will once again be offering a diverse array of programs, both on the show floor and off, along with a vast selection of new products and product demonstrations, cutting-edge technology, net- working opportunities and more. Among this year's highlights are the following: • The Opening Party, held on Monday, Feb. 18 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Encore hotel ballroom, featuring the Design Competition, Innovative Showroom and other Industry Awards presentation. • The Opening Ceremonies, held on Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., featuring actor and comedian Dana Carvey. • NKBA Certified Designers Luncheon, held Tuesday, Feb. 19 from noon to 1:30 p.m., with special guest speaker Ellen Cheever, CMKBD, ASID, CAPS, CLIPP. • State of the Association/State of the Industry address, held Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 8:45 a.m., featuring NKBA CEO Bill Darcy, followed by a panel discussion hosted by Fox News/Fox Business Anchor Melissa Francis, and featuring panelists Dr. Markus Miele, executive director and co-pro- prietor, Miele Group; Kevin Murphy, CEO, Ferguson Enterprises; Nick Fink, president, Global Plumbing Group at Fortune Brands, and Mark Stoever, CEO, 2020 Technologies. • KBIS Keynote, held Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 1:30 p.m., with returning speaker Cindy Allen. • Skilled Labor Fund Fundraiser, held Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Show Village Silver Lot. • The Bash, hosted by the NKBA and held at Encore XS Nightclub, on Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. • The IBS Closing Spike Concert with The Goo Goo Dolls, held Thursday, Feb. 21 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino – Paradise Event Center. EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE This year's Voices from the Industry Conference will feature more than 80 speakers covering a wide array of topics ranging from kitchen and bath specific topics to broader sessions address- ing overall sales, marketing, technology and design ideas and strategies. The educational sessions, at which attend- ees can earn CEU credits, are divided into five separate tracks: Grow Your Business, Kitchen & Bath Specialty Training, Design, Management and Customer Service. Additionally, for the first time, NKBA will be offering a special session geared specifically for students working toward a career in the kitchen and bath industry. This session, Growing Into a Career in the Kitchen & Bath Industry, will look at opportunities within the industry from Design, Sales, Sales Management, Project Management and Territory Management. Below is just a small sampling of the educa- tional sessions taking place as part of this year's conference: • #MicroSizeMe Designing for Downsizing, with speaker Paula Kennedy, CMKBD, Timeless Kitchen Design • The Rise of the Outdoor Kitchen 2.0, with speaker Russ Greene, GreenExterior Design • The Five Levels of a Smart Home, with speaker Brad Hintze, Control4 • Improve Your Customer Experience with Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence, with speaker Jim Gurule, • Designer Health: Meeting the Demands of Luxury and Lifestyle, with speaker Lauren Levant, Lauren Levant Interior As in years past, there will also be daily pro- gramming held live from the KBISNeXT Stage, covering topics ranging from Color Trends, Wellness Meets Technology and Sustainability to Universal Design and The Modern Luxury. NEW AND NOTABLE As in past years, KBIS will roll out some excit- ing new programs, features and events at this year's show. Among them will be the first-ever "Lightova- tion Lounge," a lighting-focused space that will be open Feb. 19-20, featuring programming by nationally recognized lighting designer Randall Whitehead, IALD, aka "The Lighting Doctor," and Joe Rey-Barreau, AIA, longtime director of Education for American Lighting Association, and professor at the University of Kentucky, aka "The Lighting Professor." Located in the tented Salon by KBIS, the lounge will have 20-minute educational sessions on a range of timely light- ing topics, along with a virtual reality experience. Also located in Salon by KBIS will be a collec- tion of exclusive, design-forward brands curated by Design Milk and the #DMMTalks Lounge. The NKBA Specialty Badge Program is another program launching for 2019, offering a micro-credential program available to all NKBA members. Three presentations, one given each day of the show, will provide an overview of the new program, with each session featuring a panel of subject matter experts including John Morgan; John Petrie, CMKBD; Randy Krebs; Paula Kennedy, CMKBD; Christopher Grubb; Tamara Myers; Mark Goldman; Margaret Krohn, CKD; Debra Norris; Nick Ritota, CKD, CBD; Jeannine Laitres, CKD, CBD; Maria Stapperfenne, CMKBD, and Peter Salerno, CMKBD.
