Joseph Hochberg, Cabinet Visionary, Dies LAKE GEORGE, NY — Joseph E. Hochberg, a custom cabinet manufacturer whose innovations left a lasting mark on the kitchen and bath design trade, died last month at his home in Lake George, NY. He was 84. Born in Brooklyn, Hochberg became a major player in the upstate New York market as the founder and longtime owner of Millbrook Kitchens, a manufacturer of custom cabinetry with a dealer network in major markets across the U.S. At one point in his career, Hochberg's products were represented in showrooms in 33 of the nation's contiguous states, as well as in Hawaii and Japan. Hochberg had been in business for 17 years when, in 1976, he pioneered an en- tirely new cabinet trend, blending contemporary European styling with a look that had wider mass appeal to American consumers. His innovative line of "curvilinear" cabinets enabled kitchen designers to create curved kitchens with the same freedom as with cabinets of traditional construction. Hochberg, who maintained residences in Lake George, NY and Key West, FL, was a member of numerous business and trade associations, including the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association and the National Kitchen and Bath Association, for which he served as president of the New York Tri-State Chapter. He also served NKBA on the national level, as a chapter representative, and was elected in 1999 to the NKBA Hall of Fame. — ELIOT SEFRIN DPHA Presents Product Awards BETHESDA, MD — During the 2018 DPHA Annual Conference, held last month at the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, the Decorative Plumbing & Hardware Association named the winners of its 2018 Product of the Year (POTY) awards.
