and framed mirrors with a pendant instead of a light bar, wallpaper making a very big comeback [and] tile or wood details on the walls." "Buyers are tending to make bolder choices in their powder room, with large-scale pattern wall-coverings and modern lighting fixtures," agrees Gehman. "They are smaller areas to have fun with and make a bold first impres- sion with visitors." "Gray and white are still very popular," DeWalt adds, "but we're also seeing a move- ment back to warmer tones in tiles and fixtures. For counter- tops, we still prefer quartz for its performance as well as [its] aesthetic. Rectangular drop-in sinks and freestanding tubs work well with an overall modern look." Her firm is also replacing carpeted bathroom closets with tile floors, taking vanity mirrors to the ceiling, replac- ing light bars with pendants, using the same tile on the floor and shower and floating vanity cabinets on the wall with lighting below. All of these help make a bathroom look larger, DeWalt suggests. LAST WORDS While kitchens are the heart of the home, the master bath may be its soul. It's where we go to get prepared for our day and where we finish our per- sonal routines every night be- fore going to bed.
