Uponor's Hutchinson Facility Opens APPLE VALLEY, MN — Uponor has opened a new facility in Hutchinson, MN to increase production of PEX pipe. Surpassing the goal of pipe production six months ahead of schedule, the 237,000-sq.-ft. facility was purchased, reno- vated and received regulatory approval in less than a year's time. Uponor North America announced the $6.35 million Hutchinson investment in July 2017 after signing an agreement to purchase the existing facility to support the company's growing U.S. manufacturing operations. At the time of that announcement, the company estimated operations in Hutchinson would begin in "early 2019." The opening of this plant marks Uponor's 11th expansion since 1990. The previous 10 occurred on the North American headquarters campus in Apple Valley, MN. The Hutchinson plant is modeled after Uponor's Apple Valley facility, which was honored with the Minnesota Manufacturers Alliance Manufacturer of the Year Award in both 2013 and 2018. Whirlpool Opens Experience Center BENTON HARBOR, MI — Whirlpool Corp. recently celebrated the grand opening of its new consumer experience center at the World of Whirlpool in Chicago, a 60,000-sq.-ft. facility that highlights the company's family of brands. Going beyond the typical appliance showroom, the new, discovery-based, immersive center offers the general public hands-on, self-guided cooking, cleaning and washing experiences and the chance to interact with Whirlpool experts to learn different "life hacks," the company notes. Discovery-based experiences range from building knife skills to removing clothing stains to making the perfect cup of coffee. "We're so excited to expand the World of Whirlpool to the benefit of the Chicago community and beyond," said Joe Liotine, head of North America for Whirlpool Corp. "With over a century of leadership in this industry, our design team and home scientists crafted this center knowing consumers crave personalized, interactive experiences as well as tips and tricks that enhance their everyday lives." Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony, world-renowned chef and television personality Chef Andrew Zimmern prepared a meal for the assembled guests using the firm's latest appliances.
