Modern Warm Up LORI CARROLL and GUILLERMO BAZUA Lori Carroll & Associates, Tucson, AZ This industrial and concrete powder room is the statement child of Lori Carroll (pictured left) and Guillermo Bazua of Lori Carroll & Associates in Tucson, AZ. The clients wanted a bold abstract room, but without the typical provocative colors and flashy elements. Faced with an unusual layout, Carroll and Bazua created a unique design with an urban loft feel, with many custom-built pieces to fit the 72-sq.-ft. space. A custom floating vanity with Horizontal Grain LoLo and open shelving underneath in a neutral tone stands out against the slanted slab charcoal tiled walls. An oval Lacava porcelain vessel sink sits on the vanity, with a Hansgrohe Puravida lavatory faucet situated behind it. Bocci 14 single pendant lights and Motiv accessories from Ginger add a light touch. The curved vanity wall wraps around to create a toilet alcove with walls finished in burnished metal sheets. Mounted in the alcove is the Duravit Puravida wall-hung toilet. The other walls have a Hopper Custom Raked Plaster finish. The flooring is Imola Koshi Dark Grey in 12"x24" tiles, keeping with the edgy dark nature of the room. Peeling Paint NAR BUSTAMANTE Nar Design Group, Carmichael, CA Challenged to create a daring powder room for fun, young homeowners without taking too much space away from the other living spaces, Nar Bustamante of Nar Design Group in Carmichael, CA designed this small room with big impact. After entering via a frosted five-panel glass pocket door, the sink wall draws the eye to the right. Using large-format textured tile with a mirror inset flush with the tile, Bustamante created a lit niche behind the sink for small necessary and/or decorative items. A single thickness Dekton Kadum counter carries the Duravit Vero vessel sink paired with a Brizo Siderna single-handle lav faucet. The counter is under lit to showcase the textured wall, while two concrete side-lights help layer the lighting, warming the space. The adjacent walls are covered in a metallic peeling rust wall application, which provides an extraordinary wow factor and fun vibe. The wall treatment continues to the Duravit toilet, which is backed with matching large-format textured tile opposite, unifying the room.
