November 2015 | KitchenBathDesign.com | 31 'empty nest' remodel; it is empty nest and nesting at the same time." Clients also choose Gayler because the business specializes not just in construction and renovations, but also interior design services. The com- pany does not carry any of its own products, but has an interior designer available to assist in all selections and help create rooms customized to the clients' tastes. When it comes to client satis- faction, Gayler is not averse to a challenge; the company recently faced a project with an unusual set of cir- cumstances. "A new widow sold her home very quickly and, instead of renting an apartment or home while we reno- vated her new home, she decided to move to her new home while we were working on it," says Darlene. Apart from the difculty of deal- ing with constant furniture deliveries while extensive remodeling work was going on, employees also had to be careful not to invade the client's per- sonal space during such a trying time. "We made it a priority to make sure the house (even in this state) was comfortable for her and her dogs. This involved a lot of careful choreogra- phy – making sure one bathroom was in working order and that she had a space of her own…a rotating space." The crew managed to redesign and update the kitchen, family room, bath- rooms and more, all while still making sure the customer was at ease and felt "at home" in her new abode. "This is not usually how we go about our projects – but we are also happy we were able to accommodate her during this difcult time." WHAT'S NEXT Gayler continues to strive to be the premier remodeler of choice in the Tri-Valley area. But while the frm's values may be old fashioned, the Gaylers aren't afraid to use new tech- nology to extend their reach and stay current: They are active on social me- dia channels, use Houzz often, have a company e-newsletter and are cur- rently upgrading their Web site. Communication is also a key component in the company's overall values – whether using written con- struction schedules with completion dates or ensuring that customers calling the ofce can always reach a live person. Gayler has also begun to produce videos and has created a blog in order to keep clients in the loop. While business has been strong, Darlene Gayler knows the importance of never resting on one's laurels. "We are always pushing ourselves to be better," she concludes. To renovate a very outdated kitchen and family room, Gayler reconfgured the two rooms to open up the entire space. The clients love the dramatic change. The Gayler team made sure that another working bathroom was available when remodeling this one for the client living in the house during construction. This complete kitchen remodel included removing walls, opening up the ceiling, moving and replacing windows and incorporating custom cabinetry and custom millwork. Always. Sometimes.
