14 | Kitchen & Bath Design News | September 2015 Industry Update { Noteworthy developments impacting the kitchen and bath market } NKBA U Calls for Entries Hackensack, NJ — The National Kitchen & Bath Association has an- nounced the Call for Entries for its 2nd annual NKBA U Professional of the Year, a contest recognizing the best and most driven professionals in the industry. The NKBA is accepting applications through the deadline on September 23, 2015. NKBA U Professional of the Year is open to both NKBA members and non-members, including designers, builders, remodelers, architects, deal- ers, manufacturers and representatives, as well as retailers. The contest is comprised of three rounds. In the First Round, applicants need to submit three 250-word essays at nkba.org/nkbaupro detailing how NKBA University or other avenues of professional development have advanced their career, the role professional development will play in their career advancement and why they deserve to be named NKBA U Professional of the Year. In the Second Round, semifnalists will receive a customized NKBA U curriculum and submit a short video explaining how NKBA U courses will advance their career. The videos will be posted to the contest's landing page for public voting. For the Final Round, four fnalists will receive an all-expenses-paid VIP trip to KBIS 2016 in Las Vegas, where they will compete live before a panel of judges and trade show attendees. Immediately following the presentations, the winner will be crowned live. In addition to the trip to KBIS, the four fnalists will receive a VIP KBIS pass, which includes access to the show foor, unlimited access to Voices from the Industry presentations and one ticket to attend The Bash event. SIMAS Launches U.S. Division in MA Marblehead, MA — SIMAS has opened SIMAS USA LLC in Marblehead, MA, outside of Boston. It is the frst Italian company of sanityware in the U.S., created to sell SIMA S.p.A. products that are 100 percent made in Italy. The frm sells its products throughout the world, with a strategy that focuses not only on prestigious showrooms, but also on architects and interior designers. "We've been in the American market for almost 20 years, with a specifc prod- uct," explains Alessandro Scopetti, SIMAS S.p.A. CEO, a CEO with full proxy for SIMAS USA LLC, and v.p. of Confndustria Ceramica. "Over time, we came to realize that our actual presence in the territory was needed. This is why SIMAS USA LLC was founded. Its goal is to penetrate this market fully, to be present in its showrooms." The sanitaryware company produces sinks, countertops, bathtubs and a range of other products. Mockett Extends Contest Deadline Manhattan Beach, CA — The deadline for Doug Mockett & Co.'s 30th annual design competition has been extended to October 1, 2015. The contest seeks innovative ideas for furniture parts, components, accessories and hardware. In addition to the deadline extension, the prize money has also been increased to $5,000. "The usual First Place award is $1,000 plus royalty, but to honor the three decades we've been hosting this unique contest, we're upping the award," noted the company. In addition, the frm adds that there is no limit to the number of First Place awards.
