12 | Kitchen & Bath Design News | July 2015 Industry Update { Noteworthy developments impacting the kitchen and bath market } 'Art + Science' Seminar Program in Summer Hiatus Wilmette, IL — "Art + Science," the series of all-day seminars being presented by Kitchen & Bath Design News in key markets throughout 2015, will take its annual summer hiatus in July and August before resuming in Kansas City. The seminar series, currently in its third and f- nal year, is scheduled to continue its 2015 run on Thursday, Sept. 23 at the Doubletree by Hilton, Kansas City-Overland Park. The 2015 program, which has already visited Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Nashville and Cleveland, will also be presented in Baltimore/Washington, DC and San Diego, accord- ing to KBDN Publisher Emeritus Eliot Sefrin. 2015 dates and targeted cities include: à September 23, Kansas City. à October 29, San Diego. à November 19, Baltimore/Washington, DC. Corporate co-sponsors of the educational initia- tive include BEST, DuPont, Hafele America, Jenn-Air, Plain & Fancy, Rev-A-Shelf and Showplace Wood Products. "Art + Science" – subtitled "How Contemporary Design & Cutting-Edge Technology Can Increase Prof- its & Resonate With Today's New Clients" – was rolled out in 2013. Aimed at kitchen and bath designers looking to refresh their creative talents and expand their technological skills, "Art + Science" is targeted at identifying "what's next" in design and technol- ogy so that design professionals can better address the needs of a younger, less-traditional client while increasing company profts in the New Digital Age. "Art + Science" spotlights the growing trend to- ward contemporary kitchens and baths that require an entirely new way of managing the space and connecting the elements of the room. Also featured is a multi-media program that presents a vision of the industry's digital present and future, including ways design professionals can leverage cutting- edge technological tools from initial client contact through fnal contract. Leading the programs is a pair of KBDN contrib- utors: Ellen Cheever, CMKBD, ASID, CAPS, widely considered to be the nation's premier kitchen and bath design authority, and Eric Schimelpfenig, AKBD, a leading authority on cutting-edge technology impacting the kitchen and bath industry. SEN Honors WoodTrac Archbold, OH — WoodTrac by Sauder was recently honored with the Vendor Partner Newcomer Award from the SEN Design Group during the organization's National Spring Conference in Denver, CO. "Being a new SEN partner, we focused on informing and educating members about WoodTrac products," said Jonathan Zublena, director of sales and marketing at WoodTrac. "Besides the increase in sales, we have gained insight into the decision-making process of kitchen and bath remodelers. The time spent with SEN members has helped us tweak our sales pitch and product oferings. As a result, it's made WoodTrac more successful with K&B; remodelers." "Jonathan and his team have some of the most motivating energy that I have seen in a long time," says Leah Peterson, execu- tive v.p. of SEN Design Group. "They fully support our education programs to encourage member business growth with great enthusiasm." The SEN Design Group Awards are distributed twice a year, with one award ceremony occurring annually. The organization's management team evaluates members and vendor partners and honors those who have made notable achievements within the business organization. Although it is not presented every year, the Venture Partner Newcomer Award was given to WoodTrac. ASID Elects 2016 Board of Directors Washington, DC — The American Society of Interior Designers has announced its newly elected 2016 Board of Directors. Sandy Gordon, FASID, MFA, LEED AP, principal, Sandy Gordon Interiors, will be Chair, and Charrisse Johnston, ASID, LEED AP BD+C, Associate AIA, principal, Steinberg Archi- tects, will be Chair Elect. They will be joined by four new at-large board members: Sarah W. Colandro, ASID, NCIDQ, LEED AP ID+C, director of interior design, Fawley Bryant; Melanie Murata, Allied ASID, NEWH, LEED Green Associate, project designer, Gensler; Denise Rush, ASID, director of undergraduate interior architecture, Boston Architectural College, and Teresa Sowell, FASID, senior manager, Raytheon. Eddy Schmitt, senior v.p. Americas, Steelcase will be the new industry partner representative. The term for the 2016 ASID Board of Directors begins on October 1, 2015. Corsi Announces New VA Plant Keysville, VA — The Corsi Group has announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Keysville, VA. This facility is where the company will be making a new cabinet brand for U.S. distribution, Siteline Cabinetry. "Siteline is a new American brand for the residential cabinet market," comments Ken Pfarr, president of The Corsi Group. The new 97,000-sq.-ft. facility to manufacture Siteline started as a 52,000-sq.-ft. exist- ing structure; The Corsi Group added approximately 45,000 sq. ft. to prepare the site for cabinet making. "This is a world-class manufacturing facility, coupled with a strong, local workforce driving the growth of our company," notes Pat Corsi, owner and CEO of The Corsi Group. The company plans to ramp up employment to a total of 110 full-time positions over the next 36 months. DIFFA Promotes Picnic in NY New York, NY — DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) Picnic by Design, which celebrates great design and engages emerg- ing and young designers to support DIFFA's work in the fght against HIV/AIDS, will take place at Ramscale Studios on Wednesday, August 5th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Guests will be able to sample gourmet picnic fare from a range of restaurants and have the opportunity to bid on picnic baskets conceived by top designers. DIFFA is launching an exciting social media campaign around the event, encouraging people across the country and globe to host their own picnics to raise awareness. Participants are invited to share snap- shots of their gatherings with the hashtag #MakeaDIFFArence.
