January 2015 ForResidentialPros.com | 55 CATEGORY: LARGE BATHROOM (more than 55 square feet) Tranquility is the name of the game in this large bath created by Erica Westeroth, CKD, CAPS, ARIDO and co-designer Sheena Hammond of XTC Design Inc. in Toronto, ON, Canada. The contemporary bath in this new- home build nods to famed infuences in design as well as elements in nature. Frank Lloyd Wright's stacked repetition detail is seen in the stacked wall storage pieces designed to hold paper products. The waterfall bench at the makeup area plays of of the concept of fowing water of Wright's Fallingwater house in Pittsburgh. Water fowing from the wall-mounted faucets mimic the stream running through that famed establishment, as well. The designers also oriented the shower and tub to face the windows, allowing bathers to gaze upon the natural landscape outside. Warm teak wood throughout, including the ceiling, pairs well with green/brown mosaic glass tile for an infusion of nature- based elements. Porcelain foors and wall tiles in a soft white tone yield a calming efect, and play well of of the natural pieces. Bold colors and Asian-inspired touches blend together in this master bath design by Sol Quintana Wagoner and co-designers Marisela Contreras and John Kavan of Jackson Design and Remodeling in San Diego, CA. While neutral tones were not on the wish list for these homeowners, the peaceful colors were incorporated to allow the more vivid shades a chance to pop without being overwhelming. A periwinkle blue vanity is encased in wood on both sides and plays against the lemon yellow oversized wall tiles that alternate between glossy and matte fnishes. Gently curved faucets and textured hand-blown glass pendants add a sparkling touch. Shoji-style doors lead to the private area, which features both a large freestanding tub and open shower, as well as the toilet. A textured wall and niches of various depths and fnishes add interest while providing storage. The bath showcased here, designed by Luz Marina Selles of Allure Designs in Gilbert, AZ, is so large it isn't just contained within four walls. The exterior walls of the old space were removed to extend this master bath to the outdoors. Stone tiles and random stones alternate in patterns that extend from the indoor shower area and through the walkway to the exterior shower on the opposite wall. Built-in niches, benches and other amenities grace both shower areas, along with multiple body jets and hand- held showers. Indoors, a custom vanity cabinet with makeup area, linen closet and dresser feature sleek, clean lines and warm wood tones. Frameless glass shower panels and the shower door add to the contemporary, open feel of the room. Photos: Arnal Photography Photos: PreviewFirst.com Photos: Mike Small
