Market Pulse { Readers' opinions on industry-related issues } Y es, I will be attending KBIS in January. I need stimulation and education on our current market [and attending the show helps me to] fnd the tools to help direct the clients to their desired goals while maintaining their budgets." Carol J. Cherry, CKD Cherry's Designs, Inc. Medford, NJ Y es, I fnd [the trade show and conference to be] inspiring and hope to fnd some new and inventive products to set myself apart from other designers in our area. It's my 'working vacation' and gives me the opportunity to network with people I know from all over the country since my move from South Florida to Michigan." Cheryl Oldershaw Chant, AKBD McDaniel's Kitchen and Bath Lansing, MI W ell, frst of all, why the switch to January? This must be conve- nient for someone, but it has been difcult to get a grip on this earlier date. Secondly, we are not excited about the Las Vegas lo- cale. Understanding that a deal has been made for a few more years, we will wait it out. It was far more convenient for us to send several people to a show every few years when it was held in Chicago or Atlanta. No one from our company has attended a show since it was switched to Las Vegas. The rotation of host cities was a far better arrangement for [deal- ers and designers] to attend. We're not all executives from big companies, we're the folks who design projects and sell the products shown there. If we can't get there, we aren't as likely to suggest their use to our clients." Bill McKay, CKD Starline Kitchen & Bath Gallery Flushing, MI I do not plan to attend KBIS for two reasons: First of all, it's in Las Vegas, and I am so done with Las Vegas. And second, the show is too much of a cost and inconvenience for what I fnd that I take away. There are other chan- nels to get the same information without incurring the large cost and committing such a large chunk of time. Theresa M. Sterbis Project Partners Design Fremont, CA Y es, we will be attending KBIS in January. We always try to go to see the latest products, meet face to face with vendors and get frst-hand informa- tion about the latest trends. However, with the show getting so large because of the inclusion of two other industries, it will be impossible to go to any semi- nars if we really want to view all of the show foor." Jackie Balint, CKD The Kitchen Collection Redondo Beach, CA I always attend KBIS every year. The marketplace is far too competitive for us not to be updating our skills and knowledge base at every opportunity. KBIS is by far the best venue for signif- cantly increasing our knowledge base and updating our skills sets." John Johnston Designer Kitchens The Woodlands, TX Y es, I do plan to attend KBIS this year. I believe the show gives me an opportunity to keep my small busi- ness 'in the know.' It also enables me to introduce my clients and their designs to some of the most cutting-edge advance- ments the kitchen and bath industry has to ofer." Peggy Farrar Kitchen and Bath Designs of Virginia Chester, VA I am undecided as to whether or not I will attend KBIS in January. Most likely, I will attend, as I think the com- bination with IBS is something I would gain a lot of information from." Christopher Awadalla Sanctuary Kitchen Design LLC Denver, CO N o, I will not be attending. I'm still in the process of rebuilding strength within my business following the devastation wrought upon it by the recession." Dorian DeHaan, NYS Certifed Interior Designer ASID, CKD, Assoc AIA Dezign Concepts Chester, NY M aybe we will attend…but right now, I'm just not sure. I would like to attend, but it depends on how much business I am able to generate between now and then." Patti Danzig Boulder Kitchen Studio Boulder, CO I do not plan to attend KBIS/IBS this year. I am happy with my product lines, and my vendor reps are working to keep me abreast of key market trends. Of course sources like Kitchen & Bath Design News help, too." John C. Schroeder Village Cabinet Design, LLC Medway, MA U nfortunately, we will not be attending KBIS this year. The expense is the reason." Patsy Stowell, CKD Corning Building Co. Corning, NY W e will not be attending KBIS this year. Having been at the show the last couple of years, we are taking a break to concentrate on our business." David Davison, CR, CKBR, president Realty Restoration, LLC Austin, TX N o, we will not be attending KBIS this year. It's just too far away and too much money. We would love to go if it were in the Northeast." Tara Veith, CKD Tara Veith Design, LLC Fairfeld, CT I f we can aford to go to KBIS, I be- lieve we should attend. And, if early 2015 sales go well, we plan to attend." Chris Donaghy Kitchen Brokers Lorton, VA Kitchen & Bath Design News recently posed this question to dealers and designers in the kitchen and bath industry: "Do you plan to attend the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) and concurrent International Builders' Show (IBS) this year? Why or why not?" Designers Discuss Plans for KBIS and IBS 6 | Kitchen & Bath Design News December 2014
