Elkin says he has been surprised at how well microwave drawers are doing. "Microwaves are all coming of the walls. Designers are opening up the kitchen. They're taking cabinets of the walls, especially if there's a window they can open up to the outside. We're seeing this microwave now going under the counter, on an island and out of sight, but also easily accessible, not only for a child, but also accessible from an ADA perspective," he says. Juliet Johnson, brand experience manager for Benton Harbor, MI-based Jenn-Air says, "As manufacturers continue to develop smarter appliances, culinary enthusiasts expect their appliances to multi-task as much as possible." Jenn-Air ofers multi-purpose appliances including a microwave combination oven and a warming drawer that doubles as a slow cooker. "These appliances ofer chefs several functions in a single appliance for more fexible design options," says Johnson. Jenn-Air has also introduced several new built-in appliances this year, including a 24" steam and convection oven that ofers a wide range of cooking modes from steam cooking to bread proofng, she notes. Joh n son add s, "Though traditional cooking appliances continue to gain popularity, complementing a wall oven with a warming drawer is another way chefs are creating a comprehensive cooking center." In ventilation, systems that can do their work without overpowering conversation make a diference. Blake Woodall, v.p. for Vent-A-Hood in Richardson, TX, says that sound is very important in the ventilation category. Jenn-Air has introduced its frst six-burner, 36" gas cooktop, which features an 18,000 BTU PowerBurner; three 15,000 BTU burners; a 9,000 BTU burner and 6,000 BTU simmer burner, all sealed and constructed of brass. At a height of only 3mm, the cooktop's low profle, near-fush design creates a sleek, built-in look. The cooktop is available in a Euro-Style stainless design with barrel knobs as well as a Pro-Style stainless model with heavier grates and diamond-etched knobs. Circle No. 160 on Product Card The 48"-wide. Viking Brigade Gas Range from Viking Range Corp. features six burners, 12"-wide griddle/simmer plate and solid oven door. The sealed burner system includes three front burners with 23,000 BTUs and three back burners equipped with 15,000 BTUs. A VariSimmer setting for all burners allows for gentle, even simmering. The 5.8-cu.-ft. oven includes a 1,500° F GourmetGlo infrared broiler system and ProFlow Convection System. The metal hoods are sanitary, durable and stain resistant, according to the company, and can be customized for any requirements. Circle No. 161 on Product Card Thermador now ofers the Professional Series Built-In Steam and Convection Oven, which ofers steam cooking combined with traditional true convection baking. The steam and convection oven matches other appliances in the Professional Series, and features 40 EasyCook automatic food programs, 10 advanced cooking modes, a meat probe and cookbook. Circle No. 162 on Product Card INDUCTION INCREASE With a desire for clean lines, added efciency, speed and fexibility topping consumer wish lists, it comes as no surprise that induction cooktops continue to gain standing in the market. "The induction cooktop, ofering a sleek design profle combined with high performance, is an appliance that luxury consumers are likely to continue to gravitate towards," says Johnson. "Since induction technology allows for a far more efcient transfer of energy than a gas fame or heated electrical element, it saves both energy and time, particularly in bringing ingredients to a boil." Many manufacturers are jumping on the induction The S9GMXU Free-Standing Dual Fuel Range from Smeg USA features an electric oven and gas range top. The oven in the 36" stainless steel range includes eight cooking modes, electronic clock with program feature, air-cooled, doubleglazed removable door, Ever-clean enamelled interior, four shelf positions and a capacity of 4.4 cu. ft. The gas range top features heavy-duty cast iron grates, sealed burners and fve burners that range from 3,500 to 12,000 BTUs. Circle No. 164 on Product Card The Whirlpool Induction double oven freestanding range features 6.7-cu-ft. total capacity, including a 2.5-cu.-ft. upper oven and 4.2-cu.-ft. lower oven. The 11" induction boost element boils up to 25 cups of water in 50% less time than a traditional gas burner, notes the company. Special features include AccuHeat induction technology and TimeSavor convection cooking. Circle No. 167 on Product Card The Renaissance 30" Induction Range from Dacor features SenseTouch Induction Technology, which automatically detects the presence and size of cookware to match only the surface area that needs heating. Featuring a seamless digital glass touch control panel, the range utilizes four SimmerSear induction zones to precisely distribute heat. It ofers three pre-set heating options and 11 custom power settings in each zone. The oven features the company's Four-Part Pure Convection System with a convection heating element, bafe, fan and flter. Circle No. 166 on Product Card Wolf's new M series line of built-in ovens incorporates Dual VertiCross convection and 10 cooking modes to ensure consistency.
