What's App Once a high-tech novelty, apps have become a way of life for many design professionals who go nowhere without their smart phone or tablet. Whether tracking fnancial expenditures, making project notes on site, organizing info or staying in touch with clients, apps can lighten the work load and streamline and simplify everything from drawing and designing to ordering, pricing, tracking shipments and more. This month, KBDN introduces What's App? – a new department spotlighting apps of relevance to the kitchen and bath industry. This month's app, launched just last month at GreenBuild 2013, was created to help design professionals simplify and streamline the process of getting LEED certifcation. The Green Badger LEED Documentation App What it is: This newly launched LEED app documents, organizes and verifes LEED construction credits in the ofce or in the feld via a smart phone or tablet. What it does: In a nutshell, the Green Badger LEED Documentation App makes documenting and organizing LEED construction credits across a single or multiple LEED projects maintainable for any size design, architecture or construction frm. The app allows users to track construction waste, create and send real-time erosion control reports, manage all sustainable material credits, and instantly verify the VOC contents of thousands of paints, coatings, sealants and adhesives. The app then outputs documentation suitable for LEED certifcation review. Materials that are LEED accredited are able to be cleanly organized into lists and verifed so that proper material credits and indoor air-quality credits are properly awarded. The most powerful tool within the app is its ability to instantaneously assess the VOC contents for thousands of products and materials used throughout a project to assess if they comply with the requirements for Low Emitting Product credits. By simply scanning the UPC code with a tablet or smart phone, users will be able to gain access to a product's ofcial MSDS information within seconds. Who it's for: Designers, architects, builders, contractors and anyone else interested in creating LEED-certifed projects. Why you need it: If you've been looking to get on the LEED bandwagon but fnd the paperwork overwhelming, this will dramatically simplify the process. Available Since: Launched in December 2013 at the Greenbuild International Conference in Philadelphia, PA. Who makes it: Green Badger LLC, Savannah, GA Platform: Supported by iOS and Android devices Where to fnd it: Available for download and installation through iTunes and the Android Market (GooglePlay) Notable: Future plans call for opportunities for a student version to help build a new foundation of LEED protocol and procedure for a new generation of designers, architects, contractors and builders.
