At the same time, he explains that invisibility, in the form of fully integrated appliances, is also on the rise, dictated by the open foor plan for American kitchens. "Our integrated and built-in lines of Sub-Zero products can be designed to merge seamlessly with kitchen cabinetry and décor. This look remains very popular as it ofers customers infnite design possibilities and complete customization," she says. "Given that the trend of designing kitchens that are open to the living area continues to be strong, appliances that seamlessly blend into cabinetry are important to our consumers," adds Juliet Johnson, AKBD, CAPS, brand experience manager for Jenn-Air Appliances in Benton Harbor, MI. Jenn-Air ofers a wide array of appliance options, from built-in refrigerators to wine cellars and dishwashers that ofer a custom overlay design to accommodate a custom panel and handle. One category of appliances that is more often being used as an attention getter is the range hood. Ramona Panus, president of RangeCraft USA in Fair Lawn, NJ, says, "People are looking to give their kitchen a facelift and replace that boring, outdated, standard, conventional kitchen range hood with a custom decorative showpiece. Adding a decorative kitchen range hood is a popular option because it makes the range hood the focal point in the heart of the home," she says. "Our customers mainly want their hoods to make a statement, be very unique and show of their personal design style. Custom metal combinations including coordinating bands and trim, with rivets and buttons, accomplish this." Streamline Hoods, based in Fair Lawn, NJ, is new to the U.S. market in 2013, and is focusing on a variety of unique products such as colored glass and photo imprinted glass hoods. "The range hoods with imprinted photos on the glass look like a piece of artwork on the wall when the range hood is not being used for cooking," says David Ryan, Streamline's director of marketing. The variety of glass hood options ofered by the company has given designers and architects more choices than the standard stainless range hood, he adds. ADVANCING TECHNOLOGY Technology that enhances the use of kitchen equipment is constantly changing and shifting, and designers are charged with fnding just the right features for each client, without adding unnecessary complications to tasks. Designed to complement the established 1950's-style Northstar Collection of appliances, the refrigerator combines the vintage look with the modern conveniences of a French-door style. Available in two versions – the full-depth Model 1958 and a cabinet-depth Model 1959 – both feature frost-free operation, interior fltered water dispenser and ice maker, glide-out freezer baskets and pantry drawer, electronic controls, Energy Star efciency and more. The refrigerators are available in nine standard colors or can be custom-colored. Circle No. 179 on Product Card October 2013 Whirlpool's Black Ice Collection of kitchen appliances features a sleek black fnish with contemporary metallic details. Energy Star-qualifed refrigerators feature LED lighting and a tall water and ice dispenser and are available in a 25 cu. ft. counter-depth model and a 29 cu. ft. French door version. Wall ovens feature the FIT system, as well as integrated rack handles, an EasyView extra-large window and SteamClean option. Ranges feature the AccuBake temperature management system, TimeSavor Plus true convection cooking system and Rapid Preheat. Circle No. 181 on Product Card The new Designer Series 50-Bottle Seamless Wine Cooler is part of Vinotemp's dealer-exclusive Designer Series product line. The unit features patent-pending gliding metal shelves with black wood trim and a seamless stainless steel trimmed dual-pane glass door.
