Transformations After I f you work in the design industry, it's hard not to be captivated by the transformation process – taking an ugly, dated or poorly functional space and making it look and work better for the client. While there's plenty of hard work involved in taking a project from conception to completion, there's something inspiring about reviewing where a space started – and how it turned out. This month's Transformations features a master bathroom that went from ordinary to extraordinary, thanks to luxe materials, a crisp, clean aesthetic and a bit of design ingenuity. Interior designer and author Karin H. Edwards of Karin H. Edwards Interiors was called upon to do a true transformation for this project, revitalizing the master bath suite as well as a guest bath. Her vision called for a crisp, clean aesthetic flled with luxurious materials including custom walnut paneling, Italian porcelain, mosaic tile and sleek chrome fttings. The rich tones of the vanity provide a feeling of warmth and elegance; the spacious open shower ofers a truly luxurious showering experience while also opening up the space visually. To bring the water experience to life, Edwards chose Axor Citterio Wall-Mounted Single Handle Faucet Sets with Base Plates, an Axor Citterio Showerpipe with Axor Citterio showerheads and Axor Citterio M Bodysprays with Square Escutcheons. In the guest bath (see photo above), two very diferent tile products were used in tandem: Rex Ceramiche's "I Bianchi di Rex" in a matte fnish, and Trend Group's oversize Damask Wallpaper mosaic. The matte stone look is used on two walls, as well as the ceiling, and laid in a pattern that alternates in two diferent format sizes. The fooring's 2x2cm mosaic picks up on the subtle beige of the damask and the gray striations in the stone look, tying the design into a cohesive whole. Tiling every surface eliminates the need for shower walls, and storage is wet-proof, built into walls. The guest bath also includes Hansgrohe's Raindance Showerpipe outftted with an Axor Starck Trim (Equilibrium Pressure Balance Valve 1/2"), and an Axor Uno single hole wall-mounted faucet. Duravit's Happy D console sink and Starck one-piece toilet complement the space. t Before t The original bathroom had nothing special to recommend it, with a tub walled of from a small, dark shower in a way that divided the bathroom and made both spaces seem cramped, and a double-bowl vanity that ofered little in way of aesthetic appeal.
