In addition to showcasing fully designed displays using repurposed materials from previous showrooms, Kitchen + Bath | Design + Construction in West Hartford, CT displays its portfolio of projects on a large-screen television in its meeting space. Many of our competitors – especially the local cabinet builders that we often come up against – are not able to make the same claim." Visitors to the showroom are invited to look inside the cabinets to explore the many interior storage aids ofered. "Our lift-up mixer shelf is always a hit," ofers Letts, "and the foot pedal on the waste basket makes everyone smile and say, 'wow, I have to have one of those on my waste basket cabinet.'" Cabinet interiors are also flled with typical items that would be stored in a cabinet or drawer – pretty dishes, silverware, spices and pantry items. That's all in keeping with the home-based atmosphere of the showroom. "Our appliance garage even has an antique toaster," Letts exclaims. A LITTLE GEM Smaller, more efcient space also characterizes Kitchen + Bath | Design + Construction, a showroom based in West Hartford, CT. It's 1,600 square feet, and owner Lorey Cavanaugh has worked to make the most of the company's showroom and ofces. Two kitchen displays, one bar, one vanity wall and one "mudroom" anchor the space. A comparison wall showing various grades of cabinetry side by side acts as an educational area for visitors. Even the showroom's ofces are constructed of cabinetry, and are used to show product and storage options. Cabinet lines featured in the showroom are from Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry, Medallion Cabinetry and UltraCraft. Cavanaugh conceived and designed the showroom, which rose from an unusual background. "Truthfully, the vision was to use existing displays repurposed from two former showrooms that closed due to the economic crises," she relates. The resulting showroom is a smaller, but complete, package. "What sets us apart is we are a small, accessible Photos: Chrissy Racho showroom, rich with details that make it "feel like home." "The vision behind the design of the space was to draw the clients into a 'home' atmosphere, complete with plenty of natural daylight from the large front windows," ofers Letts. "We show warm contemporary styles all the way to old farm house kitchens, complete with updated appliances, tile walls and foors in all of the latest styles and colors," reports Letts. The showroom has three working kitchens, a working bath and a working office, which pulls double duty as the company's ofce space, open to public view. The appliances are live, and the showroom acts as a backdrop for events. Featured in the vignettes a nd t wo product a reas are cabinets from Grabill Cabinets and Medallion Cabinetry; appliances from Sub-Zero and Wolf, and Cambria, Corian and Craft Art countertops. Fixtures and fttings from Kohler and Franke, as well as hardware from Top Knobs and Schaub, are also highlighted. "We believe our displays inspire clients and showcase our talents," stresses Letts. "While we cannot show all of the options available, we explain that our forte is design. August 2013 ForResidentialPros.com | 35
