Industry Update { Noteworthy developments impacting the kitchen and bath market } KBDN Seminar Series Underway Melville, NY ��� The series of all-day seminars being sponsored by Kitchen & Bath Design News throughout 2013 is now formally under way, having kicked o��� last month in Orlando, with another program scheduled this month in the Bay Area of California. The seminar series ��� entitled ���Art + Science: How Contemporary Design & Cutting-Edge Technology Can Increase Propts & Resonate With Today���s New Clients ��� opened its eight-city tour last month at the Four Points by Sheraton Orlando Studio City. The second presentation in the series is set for March 26 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Palo Alto, CA. The seminar will also be presented in Pittsburgh (April 25), Mahwah, NJ (May 23), Minneapolis (June 20), Boston (Sept. 26), Chicago (Oct. 17) and Atlanta (Nov. 14). Seven leading kitchen and bath product manufacturers have committed their support thus far to the program, including BEST, Elkay Mfg., Geberit, Jenn-Air, Rev-A-Shelf, Samsung and Showplace Wood Products. Designed for kitchen & bath designers, Art + Science is aimed at identifying ���what���s next��� in design and technology so that design professionals can better address the needs of a younger, less-traditional client while increasing company propts in the New Digital Age. Art + Science will spotlight the growing trend toward contemporary kitchens and baths that require an entirely new way of managing the space and connecting the elements of the room. Also featured will be a multi-media program that presents a vision of the industry���s digital present and future. Leading the programs will be a pair of KBDN contributors: Ellen Cheever, CMKBD, ASID, CAPS, widely considered to be the nation���s premier kitchen and bath design authority, and Eric Schimelpfenig, AKBD, a leading authority on cutting-edge technology impacting the kitchen and bath industry. Donation by Miele Assists Hurricane Sandy Victims Princeton, NJ ��� Miele USA, the Princeton, NJ-based manufacturer of high-end appliances, has donated $145,000 to the American Red Cross to assist in its continued relief e���orts in the wake of the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy, the company announced. Miele o���cials said last month that the donation was part of a combined e���ort with the company���s dealer network as part of its ���Help Us, Help Our Neighbors��� campaign. A portion from the sale of every vacuum cleaner and dishwasher sold from Nov. 19-Dec. 19, 2012, was earmarked for the campaign. ���This storm has been a catastrophe that has touched us all. With our U.S. headquarters in Princeton, NJ, we have seen, prst-hand, the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy on our employees, friends and neighbors,��� said Nick Ord, president of Miele USA. ���We are committed to helping those impacted by the storm and hope that our assistance will support the incredible relief e���orts the American Red Cross continues to provide to the millions of people still recovering from this storm,��� Ord said.
